RESPONSIBILITIES OF A CAREGIVER

Now that your family has a caregiver or a nanny for your loved one, you can begin to feel relieved! For the new caregiver or nanny in a family, their responsibilities have to be explained. For each family, the responsibilities may not be the same all the time. But, in general, a caregiver’s or nanny’s responsibilities are important, and they are plenty, and the caregiver or nanny must make sure that she or he can do all of these and satisfy the person receiving the care.

Medication supervision

If the person being cared for needs to drink medicine at a certain time, the caregiver or nanny has to make sure that the right dosage will be administered. There may be times that the person will refuse to take medicine, meaning the caregiver or nanny has to strategize about how to convince him or her to take medicine. As well, sometimes more than one type of medicine maybe taken. In this case, the caregiver or nanny has to make sure that the right medicines are given at the right times.

Assistance in daily activities

When it comes to walking, standing, sitting, eating and bathing, the caregiver or nanny has to be strong enough physically to give support to the person they are caring for. Assistance will be given very carefully, as the person may have slow movements. It takes a lot of physical endurance and stamina to give bodily support to another adult person. While the caregiver or nanny gives physical support, the person may complain of body pain. Therefore, utmost patience is needed in every aspect of dealing with this type of situation.

Meal Preparation

The caregiver or nanny has to know the kinds of food that the person they are caring for can eat. She or he can do grocery shopping for the person and choose suitable food to prepare. The brand of the food should also be taken into consideration. There may be specific food brands that are regarded as better choices for the kind of meal to be made. Along with the meals to be prepared for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the kinds of beverages served are also important to consider. The beverage options may be limited. Therefore, it is important for any caregiver or nanny to prepare meals and beverages as instructed.

Driving skill

If the caregiver or nanny can drive, she or he can bring the person they are caring for to an appointment in case family members are not able to. A caregiver or nanny who can drive has the advantage of making a family’s life more convenient. It has to be assured that the person will be brought to the right place and be back home afterwards.
