I am Nimfa Ayroso, a 31-year-old registered nurse from the Philippines. This letter is in support of my application to be a Home Support Worker/ Home Child Care Provider in Canada. I have worked locally and overseas for a certain period and it has been eye-opening, skill-enhancing and challenging. I have always considered myself as compassionate and empathetic thus, working with people and children gave me joy and a sense of accomplishment. I made a 2-year hiatus from work on 2012 as I need to take the lion’s share of caregiving duties for my nephew who was, then, an infant. I helped feed and bathe him– played with him among others. These tasks never felt like a burden but instead felt rewarding, especially, seeing him grow.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in March 2008 and passed my licensure exam on the same year. During my studies and post-graduation, I attended various training in the Philippines to enhance my skills, including training on First Aid, Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Wound Care Management, and a short course on Multidisciplinary Management on Critically Ill Patient. I was offered work as a nurse in Saudi Arabia and my immediate foray into an international environment was quite daunting but ultimately one of the best decisions I made so far in life. I have learned a lot through rotations in various departments (intensive care unit, medical, surgical, pediatric, geriatric) in my seven years of hospital experience. I have dealt with different types of patient age group mainly focusing on senior care. Maintenance of patient’s well-being by attending to patient’s hygiene/comfort needs (assisting with their bathing, dressing and bedmaking), overseeing patients during meal time to ensure correct diet is given, and assisting with special feeding requirements were just some of my day-to-day work plan. Working in a foreign country has enhanced my nursing skills as well as my people skills. I have developed patience, tolerance, good communication and cultural understanding from interacting with colleagues and patients of various races and nationalities. Having all these traits instilled unto me, I believe I make a solid candidate for a Home Child Care Provider or a Home Support Worker.
Presently, I am self-employed, managing our computer shop and at the same time taking care of my 7-year-old nephew. I have a knack with problem-solving and enjoy making fun activities. This is evident from the way I am taking care of him. Children of this age are full of energy and demands a lot of physical activity, it can be challenging at times, but I know that it is their way of letting out their curiosity of what life is out there. I enjoy tutoring him and giving him opportunities to develop his own competencies and interests by providing him out-of-school activities like driving him and getting him engaged to different parks and zoos.
Thank you so much for reading my letter and I look forward to discussing my application in an interview.
